THE BAMBOO DIFFERENCEText Box: THE BAMBOO DIFFERENCE

The advantages of bamboo fabric can be broken into two general categories:

	1) Bamboo is better for the environment than cotton and
	2) it is much better for you, the wearer.

Of course, in the long run, what’s better for the environment is ultimately better for all of us!

BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
No Pesticides!
A natural anti-bacterial agent called “kun” enables bamboo to grow without the need for unnatural pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers. These harmful chemicals mix into our soil and water-systems.

Cleans the Air
Forests of bamboo are so dense they return 30% more oxygen to the atmosphere than the equivalent stand of trees. Some bamboo sequester up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide from the air per hectare, which helps to cut down on global warming.

Less Energy and Water
Because bamboo is such a hardy plant, it requires much less energy to grow than similar plants used for fiber production. Unlike cotton, all bamboo needs is natural rainwater and can survive flooding and drought conditions.

Sustainability
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet, making it a high yield renewable resource. It can be harvested annually and is capable of regeneration without replanting.

Reclaims the Land
Because of its rapid growth, bamboo can reclaim land destroyed by overgrazing and overbuilding. Its root structure is also effective in cleansing the soil of toxins.

100% Biodegradable
Unlike synthetic fibers which have petroleum additives, bamboo clothing is safe for disposal.

BETTER FOR YOU
Naturally Soft
Bamboo fabric is softer than the softest cotton and has a natural sheen that is a bit silky to the touch. Bamboo/organic cotton blends, like Bamboo U, is extremely soft and heavier in weight.

Thermal Regulating
Because of the micro-pores in bamboo fiber, it is actually 2 to 3 degrees cooler than cotton in the summer and more insulating in the winter.

Absorbs and Wicks Moisture
Fiber from bamboo is 4 times more absorbent than cotton. This allows the fabric to evaporate human sweat and wicks it away from the body, making it great for exercise wear.

Breathability
The porous quality of bamboo fiber makes it unusually breathable, which resists clinging during hot weather or exercise.

Anti-Bacterial
“Kun,” the naturally occurring anti-microbial agent that prevents bacteria from cultivating on it, also keeps the werer odor free.

Allergy Reduction
The smooth fiber properties in bamboo are non-irritating to the skin, making it ideal for people with skin sensitivities or other allergies and dermatitis.

UV Protection
Bamboo naturally provides added protection against the sun’s harmful UV rays.
